Chanel’s tattoo is the must-have beauty accessory, making body art the new jewellery.
Tattoos have become very chic and embraced by high fashion,
Les Trompe L’œil de Chanel,
or, temporary tattoos are the perfect gift for the friend who has everything!
Each tattoo design was hand-drawn by Peter Philips, director of Chanel makeup
and were featured in the spring 2010 runway show.
The collection of tattoos recreate some of the Chanel icons,
from the famous double camellia to C by way of pearls and jewels.
I have always known tattoos can be classy, ever since I saw a friend’s ink of a Picasso line portrait. From that moment I wanted one, it would be my secret that would remind me to have an expansive mind. However, given the permanence I could never decide on what motif I wanted, and then they became trendy, so I postponed the idea.
And now, Chanel has launched their affordable Les Trompe L’œil de Chanel. They come in a sheet that contains a package of 55 different inkies that last about a week and are comprised of different Coco Chanel inspired symbols and patterns like birds, flowers, pears and necklaces that can be worn around the arm, ankle or thigh.
This year the they were everywhere on the catwalk (Rodarte, Chanel, Jean Paul Gaultier joined the trend), tattoos. Not real ones, of course. They used transfers and bodypaint, and so there is no need to get yourself inked. The Les Trompe L’œil de Chanel, set of 55 individual tattoos retail for £49 or $75US, and will not be in the shops until 1 March. You can buy them now from Chanel online here.
